Colorless; blown, cut, and ground. a) Blank: pear-shaped, with hemispherical bottom; top cracked off; just above mid-point, continuous, horizontal wheel-cut groove; many small elongated bubbles. b) Blank: hemispherical, being lower end of pear-shaped blank like (a); exterior and interior of rim thinned by cutting and grinding; below rim, exterior coated with white paint, which serves as background for penciled design consisting of lightly drawn radial and concentric guidelines and heavier freehand outlines of cage. c) Cage cup (unfinished); rim outsplayed, with inner and outer surfaces ground but not polished; ovolo frieze also ground but not polished, with oval perforations unfinished and darts not yet begun; cage similarly cut and ground, with areas inside meshes cut to full depth, some meshes partly undercut, and cruciform elements roughly indicated. d) Cage cup: hemispherical shape; rim outsplayed, with beveled lip; decorated with open work band at bottom of neck and open work cage enclosing body; band consists of ovolo frieze with 60 oval perforations separated by darts; cage consists of central mesh surrounded by two rings of meshes and concentric border; central mesh is circular, and is attached to body by seven posts; inner ring has seven heart-shaped meshes and outer ring has fourteen oval meshes; in both rings, small cruciform elements at junctions of adjoining meshes conceal posts; serrated bars at upper ends of heart-shaped meshes also conceal posts, as do V-shaped elements at upper extremities of oval meshes, where they meet border; around border, between each pair of meshes, one additional post.
