In 2001, Marquis began a new series of Bullseye glass. Working with a team of Bullseye's material experts, Marquis pioneered a new glassforming technique that he calls "slab construction," a term borrowed from ceramics. Marquis's well-known teacher Peter Voulkos, among others, had popularized slab construction in ceramics in the 1950s. Marquis, as usual, devised his own version adapted to glass. With this technique, Marquis also made striped glass racecars and pyramids constructed of "confetti" murrine.
