Description
Metallic gold and silver, pale green, black non-lead glasses, gold and silver leaf, oil paint, wood, lead; reverse painting on glass, gilded, assembled. Vertical, rectangular wooden box with gilded surface framing glass panel inset with smaller panel; both panes backed with gold and silver leaf, back of large panel painted with silhouette of an orchid on green, black and violet background; center of small panel has a tear-drop shaped section reverse painted with small black and white image of a human skull and bones, edge of small panel painted in green; bottom side of frame has two pair of miniature gilded lead figures (one pair in corner, one pair flanking forked "tree" that extends to edge of inset panel), inset line of small rectangular blocks placed end to end extend length of bottom frame side; object information sheet says unsigned; lower right corner of inset glass pane has indecipherable painted script beginning with "S".
