Description
Overlay Chalice. Colorless and transparent red glass; cased, blown, applied, cut, engraved. Chalice with colorless and transparent red cased cup decorated with eight cut overlapping lenses containing latticework. Top third of cup decorated with engraved flowers, leaves, and birds. Inscribed, "Frederick William Woodhouse" on one side; opposite side shows small engraved dragon holding an arrow pointing downwards. Chalice has hollow waisted colorless stem with panel-cut sides and circular foot with cut starburst on base.

Frederick William Woodhouse was an English landscape painter in the late 19th century. The goblet has an acid-etched signature, "N.E. GLASS CO.", but this is likely a later addition to the glass, probably applied in the 1960s.
