Description
Clear heavy glass with greyish tinge; and few large bubbles; wear marks at base; free blown and engraved; body with straight slightly spreading sides and thick base with rough pontil mark; set-in cover with hollow ball finial sitting on a short stepped stem; on the body "peasant-type" engraving; below rim a band of ellipses formed by intersecting pinnated wavy lines, underneath "JOHN REYNOLDS" enclosed in a wreath formed by a pair of leaf sprays, on each spray near their intersection a crudely formed bird.

The people who ordered these glasses must have been prosperous. They could afford a specially inscribed piece. Unfortunately, the names are quite common. We do not know who ordered the tumblers.
