Perkins lives and makes her work in Bumpass, VA, on a farm that has been in her family for seven generations. Her works, which have been published in New Glass Review, “fuse…characters, places and sentiments with new, fantastic handmade glass objects” that “come together like all the smells from a kitchen.” In her October Residency, she pursued more deeply the idea of being an artist, archivist and narrator in her work. She experimented with cane, murrine and pressed glass techniques and look at their relationship to her current work, which draws heavily from her love of antique textiles. Perkins also lacks access to the facilities necessary to create larger installations and was able to use the glassmaking equipment at The Studio to work on a larger scale.
