Biography: Jon Chapman
Jon Chapman draws upon the similarities between mechanical processes and human emotion in his work. He holds a B.F.A. in glass and glass sculpture from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a degree in glass from the Halliburton School of the Arts at Sir Fleming College in Ontario.
Chapman has taught at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point and Penland School of Craft. His recent exhibitions include Passing the Flame at the Wheaton Arts Center in Millville, NJ and Breakable at the Heller Gallery in New York. Chapman’s work has been published in New Technologies in Glass (A&C Black, 2012) and Best of Artists Presents: Worldwide Abstract & Mixed Media Volume II (Kennedy Publishing, 2012).
Chapman worked with Lance Friedman during an Instructor Collaborative Residency at The Studio in September 2013. The pair explored the relationship of the outside form of glass to the internal phenomena and movements within the material.
