Karlis Karklins, retired Head of the Material Culture Research Section of Parks Canada, Ottawa, has been studying beads for 45 years, with emphasis on European trade beads and eastern North American beadwork, especially that of the Six-Nations Iroquois. He founded, and is the long-standing editor of, Beads: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers. Karklins has published many articles and several books, including two bibliographies on glass trade beads and Trade Ornament Usage among the Native Peoples of Canada.
