Professor David Jacoby, a scholar of medieval history and member of the Department of History at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, is affiliated with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. His research topic was the development of the Venetian glass industry between 1220 and 1350, and he considered the sources of raw materials imported from the Levant. Until this point, most studies of this crucial chapter in glassmaking history had focused on technical developments in Venice and the influence of imported Levantine and Byzantine glass objects on Venetian glassmakers. Professor Jacoby did some of his research in the Rakow Library of The Corning Museum of Glass. He also traveled to Venice to examine the extensive records there.
