This class will focus on the dialogue between form and color in blown glass. Students will develop their skills and visual language as they consider the potential for color to enhance form, complement function, or convey meaning. Demonstrations will cover multiple overlays, incalmo, cane work, stuffed cups, and more. Museum visits and lectures will introduce historical and contemporary aspects of color in visual arts and design contexts; group discussions and critiques will encourage idea development. Students will work through collaborative assignments as well as individual projects to create works that integrate techniques and ideas while developing intermediate to advanced color working skills in the hot shop. Students must have at least one year of glassworking experience.
