This class will provide students with a thorough education in kiln-cast glass. After considering the basics of three-dimensional design, they will develop a set of skills and a vocabulary for making relief sculptures in glass. Activities and discussions will include, but are not limited to, making open-faced investment molds, placing color, re-firing, and low temperature kiln casting with frit. Ultimately, students will learn to use a variety of non-glass tools and materials to make models and multiple finished castings that examine iterations of form and surface. Students should have a firm grasp of basics of working with sheet glass including glass cutting and a willingness to explore the possibilities of the material.
