In this course, students will learn techniques for sculpting soda lime glass "off-mandrel" through demonstrations, followed by hands-on learning with direct, individual assistance from the teacher. Students’ primary focus will be on understanding heat control with the glass. Use of various tools and application of sculpting techniques will be discussed, along with suggestions of exercises for students to practice to improve their handling of soft glass. Steps for making birds, fish, and insects, as well as simple and fun animals will be taught. One year of flameworking experience is required.
