This class will investigate glassblowing through a sculptural lens, focusing on form, scale, layering, and color application techniques. Students will explore shaping the bubble with various tools, focusing on asymmetry and elements of balance, visual weight, and the optical qualities of glass. Basic cold-working techniques will be used in tandem with the blowing process. Texture, color, and surface will be explored through engraving and carving. Students will be encouraged to research, draw, and approach the class as an experiment in both design and skill building. One year of glassblowing experience is required.
