The goal of this class is to motivate and develop the students’ own creativity while working with glass in its cold state. Understanding the principles of glass grinding and using efficient procedures will be a focus. Students will learn and make use of creative principles using an individual approach to find their own original expression. Students, together with the instructor, will create glass sculptures by using the diamond saw, horizontal and vertical grinding machines, flexible grinders, and by cutting blocks of cold glass with chisel and hammer, just like in stone sculpting. In order to achieve and support the glass expression, the class will familiarize themselves with effective methods of forming, fining and polishing. The surface of the glass will be dealt with by using various tools and grindstones. All experience levels welcome.
