Luminous Graphics

August 14 - 25, 2017
Sandblasting and Enameling
All Levels
Two-Week Session

For millennia artists have used graphics, from the earliest figurations at Chauvet Cave in France using pigment sprayed over a human hand as a stencil, to contemporary artists such as Warhol and Rauschenberg incorporating photo silkscreen and graphic content into their work. Whether a simple stencil or complex photograph, the graphic image is potent. Develop fluency in image-making methods using drawings, photographs, digital images, and prints. Paint with enamels and frits, and explore sandblasting and photo sandblasting. Try image transfer production and application, frit wafer making, and enamel filling and fusing to create multi-layer glass panels. Students using image transfer of their own creation will work in advance of the class with the instructor to produce custom made fuseable decals. No glassmaking experience required.
