The goal for this class is to help students fabricate in glass anything they can conceive. This class is designed to provide and reinforce the foundations of that ability, through skill-building exercises, and an overview of techniques, from goblets to botanicals to large-scale sculpture. All of the processes covered in this class will be presented with exercises at beginning, intermediate, and advanced difficulty, as appropriate. Attentive repetition of exercises not only sharpens skills, but also gives us time to think creatively. Using heat, knowledge of the material, and a continuing examination of the basics to overcome obstacles, students will approach flameworking from an artistic perspective. It’s not how something is made (as long as it is made well), but what it is that is important. One year of flameworking experience is required.
