Make Your Own Pâte De Verre Vessel

June 26 - July 7, 2017
Kiln Working
Two-Week Session

Shin-ichi Higuchi has spent years perfecting the process of creating a mold from a model, developing an extensive color palette, and learning the ability to control these colors. All three are vital skills in mastering the pâte de verre technique.

In this class, students will focus on creating a lidded box form of their own design using a template. They will learn the basics of the multi-part mold process to copy a model. Throughout the course, Higuchi will give lectures and demonstrations to explain the vital points, such as kiln schedules, color controlling, and basic cold working.

Some plaster making skills and jewel saw experience is required. This is a juried course. Please submit three digital images of your work with your application. This course is only open to students who have not previously studied with Shin-ichi Higuchi.
