This class will start with the basics of color recipes and show glassmakers how they can design and mix their own colored glass batches. Students will explore expansion, annealing, reduction, iridizing, and several different colors. The class will include a small amount of theoretical work to understand glass recipes and lots of practical work weighing, melting, and using a range of colors and surface decoration techniques. At the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to mix their own color batch and use it. Students will have the opportunity to blow glass using the class-made colors, improve their skills, and enhance their objects with iridizing techniques. One year of glassblowing experience is required.
