Sculpture and Lampworking Technique
Through exploration of contemporary functional flameworking techniques, students will be exposed to an unabridged view into Salt’s methods and problem solving processes. Beginning with the basics of how to adjust the torch for the job at hand and understanding the chemistry of the flame, the class will also cover aspects like Salt’s breakdown of the entire color pallet into four categories of flame type. The instruction will build as Salt assembles multiple pieces along the way, packing in as much technique as possible and increasing in both detail and difficulty level. The class will provide extensive demonstration and students will have the opportunity to try all of the techniques shown while receiving one-on-one instruction. Students should bring their hand tools and any colors you would like to know how to work more effectively. Students attending this class will need a basic understanding of borosilicate lampworking techniques.
