The 4th Annual GlassFest is a four-day celebration of glass and the fire arts in the Crystal City, featuring live hot glass shows, a flameworking competition, illuminated sculpture at night, live music and entertainment, an 8K running race, shopping and dining, and fireworks, too!
The festival kicks off on Thursday, May 23, with 2300°: GlassFest Bead Extravaganza, at the Museum. It continues through the weekend with the live, outdoor glassmaking FlameOff competition, wine and beer tastings, live artist demos, and a variety of activities and promotions for the whole family. Be sure to stay for the fireworks exhibition on Saturday evening!
GlassFest events and activities take place all weekend long at The Studio as well. Apply for one of the GlassFest workshops with glassmakers Lorin Silverman and Kate Fowle Meleney, and a writing and marketing workshop for artists by Dara Riegel. A special Make Your Own Glass Vase project is available during GlassFest only; reserve your space online today.
Bead artists Truda "TJ" Mendenhall, a Fenton® bead designer, and Linda Perrin of Atlantic Art Glass will make personal appearances in the GlassMarket during GlassFest weekend. Mendenhall, a designer at Fenton® for nearly 30 years, will demonstrate the art of hand painting beads, and offer visitors the opportunity to purchase an exclusive Artist Event Bead (Saturday, 10am–5pm). Perrin, whose hand blown glass jewelry is inspired by an ancient Italian glassblowing technique, will share an expanded collection of her jewelry during this weekend only (Saturday and Sunday, 11am–4pm).
