You Design It; We Make It

You Design It; We Make It

You Design It; We Make It! brings the art of design and glassmaking alive for visitors of all ages.

This special, hands-on program is available during school breaks and throughout the summer. Have you always wondered what something might look like if it were made out of glass? It could be an original idea, something you’re inspired by in the collection, or even something you dreamt up. From whimsical and adventurous, to fanciful and fun, the possibilities are endless, and completely inspired by YOU!

Here’s how it works. Everything you need, like drawing paper, markers, and crayons, will be available at the Museum. All you need to do is draw the thing you’d most like to see made in glass, and tell us what inspired your design. Then, just submit your drawing at the main Admissions Desk. That’s it!

We’ll collect drawings throughout the week. Glassmakers at the Hot Glass Show will choose two drawings and make those pieces in front of a live audience on Wednesday mornings in the new Amphitheater Hot Shop. Best of all, the designer can watch his or her vision become reality.

Want even more You Design It; We Make It!? Flameworkers will choose one drawing every day which they will create during the Flameworking Demo in the Innovation Center.

If your piece is chosen for either the Hot Glass Demo or the Flameworking Demo and completed successfully, we will contact you so that you may keep it. Glass pieces must anneal overnight, so there may be a shipping charge.  We’re sorry but we cannot make designs of any kind of weapon.
