Jane Spillman presents glass used in various periods in America, and its relationship to customs. Included are colonial glassware, early 19th century (bottles, tableware, windows, lighting), pressed ware, tableware for the middle class, art glass, and the beginning of the art nouveau period. Her emphasis is on what was used and how, rather than on specific manufacturers and techniques.
