Franc̦ois Schwaller worked from 1904-1914 at Vallerystal Portieux as an engineer, under the direction of Adrien Richard, where he aimed to improve the quality of the glass and correcting flaws that plagued glassmaking at Vallerysthal. After leaving in 1914, Schwaller started his own business manufacturing tools and machinery for the fabrication of glass.
