The Corning Museum of Glass: Notable Acquisitions 2009

This publication was the first in a series of annual publications dedicated to presenting the most remarkable additions to the glass and library collections of The Corning Museum of Glasss during the preceding 12 months.

Fifty major additions to the Museum’s glass and library collections are discussed and illustrated, and the publication also acknowledges the many donors who enriched the collections for present and future generations.

The objects represented in this publication span two millennium, from a set of bowls used for summer dining in ancient Rome to contemporary artist Mark Peiser’s 2009 salute to the 200-inch disk in the Museum’s Innovation Center made for the Mt. Palomar telescope. Each acquisition is accompanied by a comment by a Corning Museum curator or librarian on its significance.
