Primary Description:
6 Fragments. (a) Lower wall is straight and tapering; base has horizontal purple trail at junction with wall and kick; pontil mark probably circular (D. 1.1 cm). Decorated with white trail, which was dropped onto base near center and wound at least 13 times around circumference and dragged diagonally to produce appearance of twisted ribbons or contiguous lozenges; (b) Fragment from wall of vessel. Decorated with trail wound spirally around wall; small parts of four revolutions survive, two of which (at top and bottom of fragment) have been dragged vertically to produce pattern of festoons (parts of three are present), and two are straight; all four were marvered; (c) Fragment of beaker or bottle, with cylindrical body. Wall (Th. 0.3-0.2 cm) apparently vertical. Decorated with white trail wound spirally (parts of eight revolutions survive), which was dragged vertically to form rows of adjoining festoons. (d) Fragment of wall. Exterior completely covered with spirally wound trails, red alternating with white, which have been dragged to form pattern of vertical rows of festoons. (e) Fragment from wall of vessel. Decorated with trail wound spirally around wall (parts of eight revolutions survive) dragged vertically to produce overall pattern of contiguous festoons (parts of three are present), and marvered.; (f) Fragment from wall of jar or bottle (?). Upper part of fragment (Th. 0.15 cm) curves out and down to greatest diameter, then tapers, terminating in what may be top of foot (but see below. Decoration consists of part of marvered trail wound spirally at least four times round circumference and dragged diagonally to produce appearance of twisted ribbons or rows of adjoining lozenges.
