Cup and Saucer. Hard-paste porcelain decorated in monochrome with enamel. (a) Straight-sided, glazed porcelain cup decorated in monochrome brown enamel with a profile portrait of a bearded man wearing a fur coat or collar contained in a painted circular reserve. (b) Saucer bears a freehand, cursive English inscription in brown enamel at its center: "In peace and strife / Is friendship the comfort of life".
