Primary Description:
Possibly Fragment of Bowl with Bird and Animal. Transparent pale greenish blue. Blown; relief-cut. Fragment from rim and wall of deep bowl (OTh. 0.2 cm) decorated in relief (Th. 0.1 cm). Rim plain, with rounded lip; wall is straight and descends vertically or with slight taper for 7 cm below lip, then it curves down and in. Decoration is restricted to straight part of wall and consists of three horizontal ribs (with centers 0.9 cm, 1.7 cm, and 2.5 cm below lip) and frieze. Surviving part of frieze consists of three motifs: (1, above, on left) schematic bird, standing in right profile, with small head, large and curved beak, plump body, and perhaps wing extending toward left and terminating in half-palmette; (2, below, on right) uncertain, but possibly long and extremely stylized hind leg of animal moving from left to right; and (3) between bird and animal(?), linear motif terminating in volute at lower left end. Outlines of all motifs are notched.
