Lobmeyr's "Arabian" series displays the qualities - Oriental designs and outstanding craftsmanship - that added to the company's prestige. Orientalism describes a 19th-century European revival of Islamic and Moorish decorations that had originally been introduced to Spain during the medieval period. Lobmeyr's glass objects in this style were made in very small numbers.

Primary Description: 
Transparent blue-green glass and polychrome enamels; blown, tooled, enameled and gilt. Large round plate is decorated overall with light and dark blue colored enamel and gold painting of oriental flowers and foliage set in sixteen almond-shaped leaves surrounding a stylized flower and oriental thread-work. The inner and outer borders are inscribed in gold with Arabic letters.
