Primary Description:
Mineral Water Glass with Cover. Clear glass with very few minute bubbles; wear marks at bottom; free-blown, cut, engraved and stained, with applied parts. (a) Bowl with a plain rim tapers to a ring, then flares to form thick foot-like base; (b) set-in domed cover with slender ovoid finial, resting on a disk and also divided by a disk; ovoid ear shaped handle attached at bowl. Cut decoration: base shows a star, flutes at bottom of body, ring is cut in prisms, top of handle cut; band of ovals around rim of cover, flute-like ovals at top, flutes on upper part of finial, disks cut to form octagonals. On body five engraved panels framed by octagons: on central panel initials: "A.M." and date: "den 9 Juni 1856," below frame: "Teplitz." Remaining panels show four sites of Tepeitz: "Schiesshaus" (a three story building with columns, at right side a tree), "Kostenblatt" (a hill surmounted by a small castle), "Wilhelmshoehe" (a hill, flanked by two houses and surmounted by a monument) and "Caffee Salon" (a square three story building). Ruby red stain covers body except for rim and cut and engraved decoration, it covers ring, partly the foot, handle (cutting and a ribbon along handle) and cover except for flange and cut flutes at rim, top of cover and top of finial.
