Primary Description: 
Sculpture, "Nocturne 5". Dark blue glass appearing black; mold-melted using lost wax process, grit blasted, acid polished. Life-sized, standing female figure wrapped in drapery. Drapery extends from top right shoulder down across left arm, and from left waist over outstretched right arm and down across left hip. Below hip, drapery falls vertically into a pool at the feet. Glass is lighter and more transparent at the top, becoming dark and opaque at the base.

A new body of work, 4 years in the making. Inspired by the beauty of night, Karen LaMonte calls these sculptures “Nocturnes”: dark, seductive, and sublime. They are absent of female forms – rising from penumbral garments as figurations of dusk.
