Primary Description:
Box with Cover (Pyxis). (a) Translucent colorless glass with greenish and streaks of amethyst, somewhat bubbly with "soapy" feeling, limey incrustation on lid and interior of body, some copper carbonate stains on interior, possibly two small coins; cast, lathe-cut and polished. Thick short cylindrical wall with lathe-cut groove below rounded rim, wall bends in slightly before spreading out into flanged base with flat bottom; two wheel-cut grooves elaborate the upper surface of the base; both interior and exterior surfaces lathe-polished as light concentric scratches are evident all over the vessel. (b) Lid of same material; probably cast as above. Ground horizontal rim bends up into irregular domical cover, center of underside retains a slight circular lathe-cut depression, underside of rim possibly rotary ground.
