The Austrian architect and designer Otto Prutscher (1880–1949) used the ancient technique of casing—selectively cutting away colored glass to reveal the colorless glass beneath—in a modern way. His specified cuts produced geometric decoration with dynamic results. Originally designed in the early 1900s, the pattern was still popular when this glass was made in 1997.
