Primary Description:
Canes of opaque white, opaque yellow, opaque red, turquoise, translucent medium blue and translucent amethyst, pitted, dull surface, broken on both ends; mosaic glass or millefiori technique. Fragment preserves central torso of a figure facing left. Retains traces of gilding on left-hand side, the abdomen decorated with horizontal rows of checkerboard squares beginning with turquoise, red, blue, turquoise, red, all in a yellow matrix; the pelvic region has white scales with amethyst central dots each cased with amethyst below which a diagonal yellow line forms the border for a series of blue-tipped red feathers in a white ground, below which is a series of red-tipped turquoise feathers in a yellow ground as far as preserved. The backing material of the inlay appears to be various multicolored canes.
