The vase is inscribed "Janvier, La gelée aux ciel bleu tend un voile d’argent, Les aiguilles des pins s’affinent à la bise. Nous, laissant les saisons nous bercer à leur guise, fixons l’heure mobile et son reflet changeant!" EG (January, The frost spreads a veil of silver over the blue sky, The pine needles are sharpened at its kiss. Leaving the seasons to lull us as they please, we fix on the shifting time and its changing reflection! EG) It is signed: "Gallé fecit"
