Primary Description:
Serpent-stem glass with funnel-shaped bowl of colorless glass with short drawn stem and applied mock-merese. A twisted cane with an enclosed band of opaque white and red glass is applied on one end to the knopped short stem and twisted into a flat, overlapping double-loop, its other end connecting back to the stem. Pincered trails of transparent blue glass are applied to either side of the twisted cane and the merese below the bowl. The whole rests on a short drawn stem that is connected with a small blob of glass to the flat circular foot. A small circular pontil mark is in the center of the foot beneath the base. The bowl is inscribed in script below the rim in diamond-point engraving "A Monsieur Gerard Bernsaw, Marchand a Eluerfeld.1684:le 12.xbre." [For Mister Gerard Bernsaw, merchant from Elverfeld. 1684, the 12th of December]. A scratch-engraved stylized border of 6 squarish petals alternating with arrow-shaped petals outlines the base of the bowl. On the foot near the edge is the inscription, also in script in diamond-point: "Monsieur Clauberg cet (?) fait la des Reun. a la Mierde(?) le 12 xbre '84." [Mister Clauberg did this at the reunion in Mierde on the 12th of December '84.]
