Biography: Dr. Shelly Xue

Carpenter Foundation Fellow for Asian Glass

Dr. Xue was the first Chinese scholar to receive a doctoral degree in glass art in the UK. She set up the glass studio at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts of Fudan University in 2007 where she serves as an Associate Professor/Director of Workshop & Studio Center. She is a glass historian and artist and has published many books on the subject, including Qing dynasty Chinese Glass, a Chinese version of A History of Glass Forming and Techniques of Kiln-formed Glass.

Xue has been invited for lectures and international conferences in the UK, America, the Netherlands, Sweden, Taipei and Hong Kong. Her work has been collected by European and Chinese art institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. She curated the exhibition “Now/Then-Influences of Qing Dynasty glass on Contemporary Glass Art” and seminar at Shanghai Museum of Glass in 2014.
