Tomo Sakai

Tomo Sakai graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, with a specialization in glass. Sakai then studied glass engraving and coldworking in the Czech Republic, where she met her husband, glass designer Eric Cruze. They moved to the United States in 2009, and now have a studio in Massachusetts. Sakai was the The Studio’s first coldworker-in-residence in the summer of 2016, assisting teachers and students with various projects in The Studio's cold shop. Sakai co-teaches regularly with Martin Rosol and other glass artists.

She will work with Emilio Santini as part of an Instructor Collaborative Residency at The Studio in 2020 where they will produce a new series of work together.
