Chromatic Illumination: Pâte de Verre

January 21 - 26, 2019
Kiln Working
All Levels
One-Week Session

Learn the basics of pâte de verre, model making, mold pouring, the application of glass, tamping, and firing glass in a kiln. Emphasis will be placed on creating samples that explore the use of color, pattern, and the difficult art of layering color in reverse. Students will work on interpreting different visuals into reverse color format. The samples, which are like small postcards, will be used to inform students’ larger vessels or objects. Students can expect to leave with quite a few color samples as well as three or four finished pieces. Written handouts of notes will be provided in addition to all firing schedules used in class. In-depth discussions will cover numerous topics, including firing schedules used and other possibilities. Demonstrations will be combined with copious working time and one-on-one instruction. Expect to work hard and have fun! All skill levels are welcome.
