Frit Overlay Techniques

April 13 - 14, 2019 9:00am to 4:00pm
Kiln Working
All Levels
Weekend Workshop

Using frit can be a simple and interesting way to create unique glass patterns for vessels and panels. Similar to sand painting, this technique allows students to make flowing, colorful, dramatic pieces like sand art, but with the durability and usability of glass. Students will learn basic techniques for handling frit, as well as how to construct a frame with simple materials in which to build a glass project. Participants will then learn how to transfer the frit assemblage to the kiln. Kiln programs will be provided. Students will be able to make at least two intermediate sized pieces–a bowl and a flat panel. Simple cold-working techniques needed to finish pieces will be taught during the class.

No kiln forming experience is required.
