Make It Cane!

April 3 - 4, 2021 9:00am to 4:00pm
Weekend Workshop

This class is a perfect jumping off point for students who wish to start working with cane. Proper glassblowing skills such as gathering, blocking, and marvering will be a primary focus in order to establish a solid foundation on which to build your cane technique.

The class goal will be to work as a synchronized team to learn to pull cane, pick up cane on a bubble, and make a finished vessel from a pattern. This will be supplemented with smaller, quick projects that can be easily accomplished with cane in the glass studio. Students in this class should have two or more years of experience working in a hot glass studio, be able to comfortably take two or more gathers of glass, and have experience working with color rod.

For the wellbeing of all students and staff, The Studio workshops have been modified, class capacity has been reduced, and sanitizing and social distancing protocols have been introduced. Detailed information about these measures can be found on The Studio Health and Safety page.

Students registered for this class must comply with the New York State COVID-19 Travel Advisory and Museum guidelines. Because NY State strongly discourages non-essential interstate travel this class is currently only open to NY State residents. If this class is full or if you are an out-of-state resident, please email [email protected] with your name and phone number to be added to the waiting list. A health questionnaire and temperature scan will be required before attending class.
