Sculpting the Void: Lost Wax Glass Casting

June 24 - 29, 2019
Kiln Working and Moldmaking
All Levels
One-Week Session

Learn Mark Abildgaard’s approach to creating forms in wax using wet clay as a mold. Images are made by pressing objects into the clay and then pouring the melted wax into the void. This technique has a lot of potential to produce interesting forms and textures for pieces that can be cast in glass. Students will learn each step in the process through a hands–on approach. Students will make small objects in wax that will progress through the moldmaking process, kiln firing, and annealing. Participants will gain an understanding of all the steps required in glass casting and will be equipped to continue working on their own. This class is ideal for artists looking for a new approach to cast glass.

All skill levels are welcome.
