Understanding Borosilicate, First Steps in Flameworking

Students will engage in a progressive and educational journey which introduces them to borosilicate glass and a wide variety of techniques to manipulate this material. New techniques will be introduced each week which allow students to build and develop a strong foundation of technical mastery. Beginning with a comprehensive understanding of hot vs. cold connections, students will progress through cane work, cocooning/lacework, fuming, figurative sculpture, flora sculpting, 2–D sculpting, bridging, 2–D to 3–D assemblage and hollow sculpting. Students will have the option to create and develop multi-week personal projects. Class time will be divided between instructional demonstrations and supervised work time. This class meets on Thursday evenings for ten weeks beginning March 7th. This class uses borosilicate (hard) glass.

All levels of experience are welcome.
