Events & Programs Manager

Manages the overall operations of the Events Department. Responsible for event management including planning and production of events and public programs at The Corning Museum of Glass. Ensures world-class customer service and brand integrity for all events (both internal and external customers) and facility rentals. Manages resources to meet budgeted revenue and expenses. Establishes an environment of safety for Museum guests, employees, and partners in all aspects of event production.


  • Manages the daily Events operation. Oversees the planning and execution of events and programs of varying scale to ensure delivery according to customer (both internal and external) requirements and the Museum’s quality standards. Provides on-site management of assigned events and serves as the Museum’s representative to meet expectations.
  • Works closely with the Chief Marketing and Communication Officer (CMCO) to define short- and long-term strategies for event management and production, and public programs. Strives to achieve the appropriate balance between the Museum’s role as center of community and delivering mission-driven programs while balancing existing departmental and Corning Inc. resources.
  • Oversees calendar of events for all Museum rental spaces and coordinates booking of internal and external events to ensure optimal utilization of rental spaces as maintained by event planning staff.
  • Works closely with all appropriate departments to set and ensure consistency for CMoG’s standard of excellence in event planning and production. Maintains departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Sells event space to meet customer’s needs while optimizing space and revenue and adhering to Museum policies and procedures. Authorizes all external events. Responds to inquiries in a timely manner and conducts appropriate follow up.
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of Artifax.  Utilizes the system to support event planning and departmental reporting. Enters data into Artifax and maintains accurate and complete customer records.
  • Works closely with the Production Manager to develop mission-branded events and public programs. Manages implementation.
  • Works closely with the Production Manager and Events Coordinator to create two-week out and long-term (eight-week rolling) staffing schedules.
  • Recruits, hires, manages and supports the development of the Events staff.
  • Oversees training for the events team; develops staff to be more effective and broaden their capabilities.
  • Facilitates team and individual meetings and runs weekly operations (Monday morning) meeting.
  • Works closely with the CMCO to develop and implement the Events department budget; manages expenses to budget. Approves departmental spending up to authorized level. Reports YTD revenues and forecast.
  • Reviews all customer proposals and invoices for accuracy; resolves discrepancies and customer questions.
  • Serves on the capital projects team, representing the department’s needs and impacts.
  • Researches, negotiates and secures vendor contracts.
  • Oversees activities associated with event partners including Corning Incorporated’s Corporate Food Services, Business Services, Security and Housekeeping, plus the Museum’s Operations, Marcom, Digital, and IT departments. Serves as primary contact for all Corning Incorporated executive events.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of Museum and customer proprietary information while maintaining strong internal and external communications with all event stakeholders.
  • Complies with all safety regulations to ensure that all events provide a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensures adherence to all Museum policies and procedures.
  • Protects and controls all Museum assets against theft and damage.
  • Coordinates benchmarking for team with other museums and event facilities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or event planning.
  • Minimum five years’ experience and excellent knowledge of event planning and audio-visual systems.
  • Minimum three years’ supervisory experience; excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations and effectively solve problems.
  • Ability to represent the Museum professionally.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Must have strong knowledge of computer software applications, including Word, Excel & Outlook
