Retail Coordinator

Summary 

Supports retail management of The Corning Museum of Glass shops, delivering world-class customer service, assisting visitors in the selection of appropriate merchandise and providing accurate information about the Museum’s offerings.  Leads the daily operations in assigned shops including training, inventory control, stock keeping, housekeeping and operation of the Point of Sale equipment

Responsibilities

Sales

  • Ensures responsive customer service and sales in all assigned areas.
  • In the absence of other Coordinators, coordinates operations and responds to any customer service issues that may arise in any area.
  • In the absence of management, gives direction to temporary and seasonal staff when needed.
  • Provides visitors with accurate information about the merchandise assortment, facility services and local attractions.
  • Supports store management in the orientation and training of new retail associates as needed.
  • Ensures that all associates receive accurate information necessary to provide quality service and maintain operational control in a timely manner.
  • Operates all Point of Sale equipment and accurately performs all required transactions.
  • Executes procedures associated with opening and closing of The Shops.
  • Analyzes Point of Sale reports to understand sales trends, forecast inventory requirements and recommend adjustments to the merchandising plan.
  • Prepares warehouse transfer requests in order to maintain appropriate stock levels on the selling floor and in the stock area.
  • Ensures that all stock and paperwork are maintained in accordance with inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation and execution of annual physical inventory. Immediately communicates inventory issues to the Inventory Control and Storage Facility Team Leader.
  • Leads preparation and execution of annual physical inventory for all assigned areas.
  • Identifies slow-moving items to be considered for discontinuance.
  • Provides visitor feedback to store management and buying staff for new merchandise.
  • Leads merchandise moves as business dictates and maintains visual display standards to maximize sales and enhance shops.
  • Works closely with management, buyers and visual merchandiser to ensure that all merchandise appropriately represents the artist/vendor's vision and requirements.
  • Ensures that all merchandise is properly ticketed and signed.
  • Responsible for placement and maintenance of all signs in accordance with promotional schedule.

  • High School degree required; Associates degree desired.
  • Ability to correctly analyze and understand sales reports.
  • Ability to ring up sales and make change accurately.
  • Minimum one-year previous retail experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Handles multiple tasks under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Some weekends, evenings and holidays required; flexibility in hours necessary.
