Behind the Glass: Pilchuck: A Dance with Fire

In the summer of 1971 something revolutionary was happening at a remote tree farm north of Seattle, in Washington State. Little did the world realize that what seemed like a primitive hippie project to build furnaces for a glassmaking workshop would become a key driver of an artistic movement.

Watch the 45-year history of the Pilchuck Glass School unfold from its humble beginnings to an internationally renowned center for teaching and learning glassmaking. Narrated by Jeff Bridges, the film features many well-known artists such as Dale Chihuly, Benjamin Moore, Toots Zynsky, Lino Tagliapietra, Ginny Ruffner, and Dante Marioni, as well as Tina Oldknow, the Museum’s Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass.  This 68-minute documentary film will be screened in its entirety during this special Behind the Glass event. Director John Forsen will introduce the film and be on hand after for questions and answers, when he will be joined by Pilchuck’s executive director, Jim Baker.
