Evening for Educators

"Why Corning?" It’s the question we hear most from our visitors. How did a hilly river valley hamlet become the place where every day is a #agreatdayforglass?

2018 is a good year to get some answers to that question because it’s the 150th anniversary of glass coming to Corning. We’ll share that story and celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, which made glass in Corning possible, by giving you a preview of the GlassBarge, a floating, hot glassblowing stage that will travel the route glass took from Brooklyn to Corning. The occasion will also be marked by the reopening of the refreshed Crystal City Gallery.

This year is also the 60th anniversary of the Junior Curator program. That event will be marked with a time capsule exhibition. You’ll also preview the work of European glass masters in the exhibition Glass of the Architects: Vienna, 1900-1937 and finish the evening with a hands-on preview of spring break activities.

In-service credit is available; check with your district for approval. Stay for our popular free art happening, 2300˚, immediately following.

Light refreshments will be available. Reservations are required as space is limited. Contact edu@cmog.org or +1 (607) 438-5429 to make a reservation or for more information.
