Little Gather: Mythmasters

August 6, 2014 11:00am to 12:00pm
Little Gather: Mythmasters

Introduce little ones to the Museum through FREE storytelling, puppet shows, music, and lots of fun!

The myths of ancient Greece come alive through a skillful and entertaining combination of theatrical techniques and lots of audience participation! Performers Shawn and Mark bring the ancient gods, goddesses, heroes, villains, monsters, and maidens back to life in an exploration of the ancient worlds. This unique storytelling program is certain to ignite further exploration of one of the most fascinating ancient civilizations. Three traditional Greek myths are performed in a contemporary untraditional way to excite and engage the audience as they are drawn into the action.

Myths to be explored include: Phaeton and Helios, Orpheus and Eurydice, and Echo and Narcissus. Through a seamless blend of theatrical techniques including mime, comedy, drama, puppets, masks, costumes, music, and lots of audience participation the classic characters of Greek mythology come alive on the stage and walk the earth once more.

Stay after the performance and explore gallery objects related to the day's theme. See mythological characters in our Origins of Glassmaking and Glass of the Romans galleries after the show.

The Southeast Steuben County Library will be on site for each Little Gather Family session at 11 am, offering selected pieces from their collection centered around the Little Gather theme of the week. Bring your local library card to check out these items and further enhance your Little Gather experience at home.
