Public Events During the 2016 GAS Conference

The city of Corning and The Corning Museum of Glass are hosts to the 2016 Glass Art Society Conference. Although lectures, demonstrations, and lecmos are reserved for Glass Art Society Members and conference registrants, there will be several events over the three-day conference period that are open to the public.

Amphitheater Hot Shop, Corning Museum of Glass
Join us for this extraordinary and rare opportunity to see Venetian glass Maestro, Lino Tagliapietra, at work in our state-of-the-art Amphitheater Hot Shop. Tagliapietra is recognized the world over as a master of traditional techniques, a teacher who has shaped the world of contemporary glass, and an artist who create sculptures renowned for their complexity, elegance, and visual poetry.

A long-standing tradition at the GAS conference, the Goblet Grab is an exciting, whirlwind event that supports the GAS Special Project Community Partnership Fund. Artists from all over the world have donated drinking glasses that you can take home to add to your own collection. For details, visit

Live and Silent auction
Free and open to the public
The GAS Live & Silent Auction is one of the highlights of the annual conference, featuring spectacular work created by our presenters and members. Donations and purchases help keep conference registration affordable and support low student fees and ongoing operations of GAS. In addition to bidding on artwork and other items such as gift cards, tools, and books during the Silent Auction, conference attendees and the general public will be able to bid at the Live Auction on approximately 25 unique pieces created by GAS 2016 Corning presenters and GAS Board members. See and purchase the newest and best equipment, supplies, services, and publications, at GAS’s annual Technical Display, located just outside of the Rakow Library. Stop by and mingle with fellow glass lovers, while perusing the Tech Display booths!

See a special exhibition featuring the works of student members of GAS who are currently enrolled full-time in accredited degree-granting programs in the International Student Exhibition & Sales. Many exhibitors will be selling their work during the exhibition. Buyers must make their own arrangements for shipping purchased work.
