This video focuses on the production of three major pieces of Steuben from conception to completion. Thomas S. Buechner, President of Steuben Glass, hosts a meeting with Steuben designers to discuss the goal of the assignment, which is to use glass to represent "space", to incorporate the use of blowing, cutting, and engraving into each piece, and to retail for $15,000. Designers Lloyd Atkins, David Dowler, and Donald Pollard explain their specific ideas to meet the assignment. Each collaborates with the glassblowers, cutters and engravers, as we follow the production of each piece from conception to completion. The results of the assignment are: "Bird Sphere" by Lloyd Atkins, "Pendulum Universe" by David Dowler, and "Cosmos" by Donald Pollard.
