This film documents through original photographs, the atrocities of child labor primarily in the glass industry and how the invention of the Owens automatic bottle machine reduced the need for child labor in these factories. The Owens automatic bottle machine was invented by Michael J. Owens, who at ten years also worked as a child in the glass industry.

The Howard County Public School System History Day program (related to this year's National History Day theme of Innovation in History) is a collaborative effort among classroom Social Studies teachers, Gifted & Talented resource teachers, Media specialists, Central Office support staff, libraries, colleges, universities, and local historical institutions. This film is the 2010 winner of the senior division, documentary competition and the state wide, senior division, excellence in labor history award in Maryland.
